Raise a Glass for the Kids

THANK YOU!

Assistance League® of Bend held another successful fundraising event at the River Run Event Center on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.  Sue Emmons, Vice President, Philanthropic Programs reported that approximately 130 people attended the event and gross receipts are totaling over $13,000.  The funds raised will support Operation School Bell®

Sponsored by Gene Emmons, the River Run Event Center, D & D Bar & Grill, Cascade Lakes Brewery, Da Chara Duo and Redmond Walmart, the funds raised will support Operation School Bell®, the signature program of Assistance League.

This free event boasted a Mexican themed dinner, a live auction and was highlighted by two guest speakers. A local Redmond mother shared how her five daughters have received school clothes from Operation School Bell and how grateful her family has been for this assistance. The second speaker, Chris Schroeder-Fain, Vice President of Wealth Management for Morgan Stanley in Bend spoke about how her single mother struggled financially to make ends meet, and the challenges she and her sister faced in school because they dressed poorly, until a caring adult offered to take her and her sister shopping for school clothing. Having new school clothes made all the difference in the world in their school experience. Chris has never forgotten that kindness and continues to pay it forward with the many philanthropic programs she is involved with.

Anita Saafeld, President of Assistance League of Bend, is very proud to lead such a dedicated group of volunteers and appreciates the support of Central Oregon. Funds raised from this event will help to provide a basic wardrobe of new school clothes to local children in need in the Bend-La Pine and Redmond school districts. Other programs include supplying seniors with hygiene items and holiday gifts, as well as making and delivering hundreds of hats for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Assistance League of Bend also hosts Breakfast with Santa for foster families, teaches cooking and nutrition to low-income children and rewards at-risk teens for good attendance in school.
